Four men have been arrested for trying to hijack a truck and its load worth R4,5million near Germiston.

Police spokesman Captain Steady Nawa said yesterday the truck was hijacked on the N3 on Tuesday.

A white Honda Ballade had driven up close to the moving vehicle, and its occupants apparently signalled to the driver that there was something wrong with his truck.

He stopped his rig and went to investigate.

While he was busy, a grey BMW stopped and two men forced him into the car at gunpoint.

They drove him to an open veld, where police surprised them.

The truck driver told the police what had happened and the four men - three Mozambicans and a Malawian - were arrested.

They are due to appear in court soon. - Sapa
