Nadeco now expels councillor

Disunity has continued in the embattled National Democratic Convention (Nadeco) after the party expelled one of its two suspended councillors.

Last week, the party's district leadership suspended two councilors, Thokozani Hadebe from Umzinyathi, and Thandanani Njoko from AmaJuba.

They were accused of failing to report back to the constituency structures, and failing to pay the 5percent stipulated fee.

But Hadebe made it clear that he would ignore the letter because he did not recognise Hawu Mbatha as party leader.

"They are suspending me because they think I might cross the floor and because I don't accept Mbatha as party president.

"I will never do that because to me the conference that elected him was illegitimate and I still believe Jiyane is the president of the party," he said. Hadebe said he would continue serving the people of Umsinga.

But during yesterday's disciplinary hearing, Hadebe was officially expelled from the party. District secretary Patrick Mdladla, said the decision to expel Hadebe was final.

"We have already nominated another member to replace him.

"On Monday, I was at Nquthu where we nominated Njoko's replacement and on Tuesday, I went to Umsinga where we nominated a candidate to replace Hadebe," said Mdladla.
