Three women who have confessed to the killing of a newborn baby and burying it in a yard abandoned their bail applications at the Mamelodi magistrates' court in Pretoria yesterday. The case was postponed to August 28.

The women - Cecilia Mokgabane Seale, Rosinah Show, an aunt, and Thandi Martha Matubane, the midwife - were arrested last week after allegedly drowning a newborn girl in a bucket and burying her in the yard.

She confessed that she had drowned another baby and buried it in the yard last year. That baby's remains were exhumed last week.

Cecilia's brother, Sello Seale said he was glad the women were in custody. "It's for their own safety ," he said. - Sapa
