August is Women's Month, and to pre-empt the celebration The Women's Desk will hold its fourth conference tomorrow, with Winnie Madikizela-Mandela as keynote speaker.
A Women's Desk was established to promote the interest of women generally in the legal profession, to create gender awareness and undertake and coordinate gender training.
Topics that will be covered will range from child trafficking and the new Children's Act, to the professional woman and her family.
Kathleen Matolo, vice president of the Law Society of Northern Province and chairman of the Gender and Transformation Desk, said gender training programmes had been in place to build capacity and equip members with skills.
The first conference was hosted by the Gender and Transformation Commission on August 12 and 13 2004 to commemorate National Women's Day on August 9.
Since its inception, the occasion has been graced by speakers from all walks of life.
Matolo said issues addressed during past conferences included legal matters, stress management, balancing work and personal life and many others.
"As this seemed to be a winning recipe, it was decided to again present the woman's view in forthcoming conferences," said Matolo.
She said the Law Society of Northern Province would continue to host the Women's Conference.
The theme of this week's conference is The Modern Professional Woman.
It will run on July 19 and 20 at the South African Reserve Bank Conference Centre in Pretoria.
