It is often said that to embrace the future, one has to make a clean break with the past.

It is often said that to embrace the future, one has to make a clean break with the past.

But, inevitably, this has been difficult for many families whose relatives disappeared without trace at the height of repression during the apartheid era.

Not knowing who and how their loved ones were killed and where they had been buried has led to no closure.

The announcement by the National Prosecuting Authority that they have discovered human remains believed to be those of the Pebco Three on a Cradock farm will hopefully shed some light on their fate.

The three were kidnapped from the Port Elizabeth airport in 1985.

The latest discovery naturally offers hope for other families. The NPA must now cast their net wider and crack down on those who have not shown any remorse for their dastardly deeds.
