Oil yesterday was 25 US cents shy of its record peak reached last August, driven by an influx of speculative fund money and tightening crude supplies from the North Sea. This was a new 11-month high for London Brent. By midday trading, the benchmark was up 36c at $77,93. US crude rose 36c at $74,29 a barrel, well below its record high of $78,40 set in July 2006. - Reuters
