Windfall for schools

African Metre Readings have pledged R375 000 for schools sport that will benefit pupils in the Lepelle-Nkumpi Municipality in Limpopo for next year.

This is a massive increase in sponsorship considering that the company sponsored the schools' sport programme in the area for R65 000 this year.

A total of 147 schools from the Mogodumo area, that falls under the jurisdiction of the municipality, will benefit from the sponsorship.

The sporting codes that will be played are soccer, softball, netball and volleyball and will feature pupils from primary and secondary schools in the area.

"We are humbled by the gesture of our sponsors and everyone is excited and looking forward to the starting of the tournament in February next year.

"The finals will be played on the last weekend of April," Jimmy "Jay Jay" Ngobeni, Mogodumo area schools' chairman, said yesterday.

"I urge all the teachers to start preparing for their players because it will not be an easy tournament next year.

"We will also have an invitational school from Capricorn district that will compete in the softball category.

"This is part of our mission to promote softball at schools."

The schools that will take part in the tournament from GaMphahlele, Lebowakgomo, Nokotlou, Sepitsi and Mogodumo circuits.
