Watch out for South Africa's future soccer stars, who are being groomed by Shona Khona, the education through sport programme.

Conceived three years ago, it is sponsored and organised by Metcash and the sanitary, health and household care product manufacturer and distributor, Reckitt Benckiser. Sowetan and SABC are the media sponsors. Sowetan made Shona Khona part of the Aggrey Klaaste Nation Building Foundation's youth and development portfolio.

Candidates enter by buying Reckitt Benckiser products at Metcash and Metcash-friendly stores that bear special numbers. they SMS these numbers to the organisers. A draw helps organisers to choose 180 entrants to attend two separate soccer coaching and life skills development camps at the Safa and Transnet Sports School of Excellence in Gauteng.

From each camp, held in December and May or June, six youngsters each qualify for further coaching and life skills induction at the Sao Paulo Football Club soccer academy in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in July.
