Young women covet title

Gauteng will have to wait until tomorrow to know who among the 20 beautiful women vying for the inaugural Miss Winter Gauteng will represent the province in the beauty stakes.

When Sowetan visited the contestants during rehearsals at the East Bank High School in Alexandra, the place was teeming with talent and beauty.

Anna Rambau, pictured, an 18- year-old beauty, said she hopes to be chosen as the first Miss Winter Gauteng at the Pyramids Conference Centre, Johannesburg.

"I am so excited by the prospects of being Miss Winter Gauteng. If I walk away with the title, it will be a dream come true. I will also enter for Miss South Africa," said the Grade 11 pupil.

Judging by her track record in the beauty stakes, this may not be empty boasting. She is currently Miss High School, and a runner-up in the recently held Miss Solution.

But Rambau will have to fight it out with the other 19 girls who are also determined to walk away with the title.

"My wish is to see these girls succeed in life as leading top models. It is about giving each of them an opportunity in life," said organiser Phindiwe Mthombothi.

Entrance fee is R50 and the event starts at 6pm.
