Just a few days after the Live Earth Concert, in which a number of internationally acclaimed artists appeared, yet another celebrated personality is on his way to Mzansi.

US Gospel star Kirk Franklin will participate in the One World Music Festival to be held at Durban's International Convention Centre from July 27-29.

The popular performer will be travelling with his 18-piece band and share the stage with Joyous Celebration.

Born in Fort Worth, Texas, Franklin has been acclaimed for brilliantly fusing gospel with hip-hop and R&B music.

Despite his fame, Franklin remains a humble, devout Christian. His music has been widely accepted by music fans the world over.

Franklin has recorded six albums. His debut album, Kirk Franklin & The Family, was released in 1993.

The album spent 100 weeks on the gospel charts and became the first gospel album to go platinum.

His second album, Kirk Franklin & the Family Christmas, also did extremely well on the US charts.

The One World music festivals serve to create cultural relationships between New Orleans and Durban, its sister city.

Franklin's other successful albums include God's Property, Nu Nation Project, Rebirth of Kirk Franklin and Hero.
