Coaches feel the heat in CAF ties

Teams have fired their coaches following losses in the opening games of the CAF Champions League fixtures.

Jeunesse Sportive Kabylie and Esperance de Tunis did that after experiencing mixed fortunes in the same competition last weekend.

Reports from Reuters are that Tunisian Faouzi Benzarti replaced Frenchman Jacky Dugueperoux at Esperance after the "Blood and Gold" were held 0-0 at home by ASEC of Ivory Coast in Group B in their opening game.

Benzarti rejoined Esperance citing lack of support from officials for his recent decision to quit Etoile Sahel having guided the "Red Devils' to the Tunisian title after seven consecutive second-place finishes. Kabylie sacked Azzedine Ait Djoudi following a surprise 1-0 away loss to African rookies Al-Ittihad of Libya in Group A.

While JS Kabylie's decision seemed a good one in that they managed a 2-0 victory in their home tie against FAR Rabat, Esperance's misfortunes seemed not to have been because of the coach as they went down 0-2 to Al Hilal.

Highlights and other Champions League encounters will be screened on the African Soccer Television show on SABC SportsLaduma on Sunday at 5.30pm.
