A Johannesburg ATM was blasted by thieves early yesterday morning.

Police spokesman Captain Bhekizizwe Mavundla said the attack took place in Fourways at 2.10am.

Two men were spotted acting suspiciously at a Standard Bank ATM situated at an Engen garage in the Magalisig area, Mavundla said.

"The suspects fled in a dark blue Golf."

He said that when police arrived at the crime scene, they found cash scattered about and they also found blood smears near the ATM. "We think that one of the suspects might have been injured by the explosion."

Police could not confirm if any cash was stolen.

Blood samples were taken to forensic labs to aid further investigation. - Sapa
