The Limpopo roads and transport department this week ordered workshops in all districts to commence with the respraying of 16 graders that have cost the province R40million.

This instruction follows an expose in Sowetan a week ago about the graders that have been lying idle since they were bought in a tender that has gone wrong.

After the graders were bought, they were distributed to districts where they were needed most to improve road conditions, especially in rural Limpopo.

But they have been idle since being acquired. This has sparked talk that they were "fong kongs" because they were bought in China.

Concern had been raised that the millions used to purchase the unusually grey-coloured graders as opposed to the usual yellow ones would go down the drain.
