First National Bank has invested R100million to fight ATM fraud over the next three years.
The bank's ATM chief executive Mike Arnold said: "Enough is enough. Our message is loud and clear to all criminals even [those who may be] contemplating taking us on.
"We assure perpetrators that we have the technology, backing and skills to not only identify them, but prosecute them successfully as well."
About R66million will be used to instal security cameras.
Arnold said: "The initial installation of security cameras at 500 ATM sites across the country has already commenced, with successful pilots in Port Elizabeth, East London, Johannesburg, Cape Town and Pretoria, leading to 148 completed cases and 17 criminal convictions."
Arnold said the pilot of surveillance cameras was carried out on 138 ATM sites last year in collaboration with a private service provider and the police in which FNB managed to dramatically reduce ATM crime.
Video footage was monitored by a security team looking for evidence of card skimming, armed robbery, card swapping and the use of explosives.
