A 31-year-old man is to appear in the Mthatha magistrates' court today in connection with the death of his drinking partner at a circumcision ceremony earlier this week.

Police spokesman Superintendent Mzukisi Fatyela said yesterday the suspect allegedly stabbed Lennox Mhiko to death while visiting the Zimbane administrative region outside Mthatha.

"It is alleged that the two were enjoying themselves with liquor, together with other local residents, when the attack took place," Fatyela said.

An argument ensued between the two which resulted in the stabbing of the victim, he said.

Fatyela said the 50-year-old victim was taken to the Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital where he later died.

A case of murder was then opened against the suspect, the police spokesman said.
