Spat leaves councillors confused

A battle for supremacy has erupted between two political heavyweights in the Mopani district of Limpopo.

At the centre of the row is a fight over a council meeting between Semomo Maake, chairman of the ANC in the Mark Shope sub-region, and Joyce Nkwinika, the party's chief whip in the greater Tzaneen municipality.

Maake allegedly contacted councillors, advising them of a meeting scheduled for yesterday afternoon, and Nkwinika allegedly told the councillors to ignore Maake's message.

Upon hearing of Nkwinika's action, Maake again contacted the councillors confirming the meeting.

In an attempt to ease the tension, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, the MEC for local government and housing, has intervened and will speak to councillors on the issue today.
