Province honours youth

Michael Tlhakudi

The Premier of the Free State Beatrice Marshoff has called on the youth in the province to seek information and organise themselves to take advantage of opportunities presented to them.

Marshoff was a keynote speaker at the glittering yearly Premier's Youth Awards held at Ladybrand stadium at the weekend.

The awards were organised in conjunction with the Free State Youth Commission (FSYC). They are aimed at honouring the youth - between the ages of 14 and 35 - who make a contribution in enhancing the lives of the youth in the Free State. More than 1000 nominations from across the province were received by the commission.

"Our current generation must understand that their destiny lies in their own hands and the youth must go out and look for information that will empower them," said Marshoff.

One of the winners in the Arts and Culture category, Nontombi Ntakakaza was ecstatic about the award. She said: "Now I believe that hard work pays."

She is a Fine Arts graduate from the Central University of Technology in Bloemfontein, a freelance cartoonist and an arts teacher.
