Black Leopards, who are seventh on the Telkom Charity Cup voting chart, are optimistic that they will bounce back and surprise a number of teams in the elite league this season.

Lidoda Duvha, who qualified for the Castle Premiership in the 2001-02 season, have been taking part in this yearly competition since then, only missing out on the one-day tournament last season.

The club's brand manager, Tshifhiwa "Chief" Thidiela, said he was upset by his side's position on the voting chart.

"It's not up to the team but up to our supporters to vote for us. We're still struggling to make it into the top four but there is still time," he said.

"I believe that our supporters were disappointed by the team's performance last season. But we're not going to throw in the towel at this stage."

He said they will hold meetings in different provinces to encourage their supporters to start voting.

"We'll be going flat out in these remaining weeks so people must not be surprised when we catch up with those who are in the lead.

"We'll be playing Kaizer Chiefs in the Limpopo Challenge on Sunday, and we're hoping that our supporters will come and vote in large numbers before and after the game."

Though they had amassed a few votes Thidiela still believed that they would come back strongly, particularly when the closing date nears.

"Most of the teams will be relaxing so we'll be doubling our effort," said Thidiela, whose side had accumulated 511 votes by 4.30pm yesterday.

Silver Stars were still leading with 43 441 votes, Kaizer Chiefs were second with 29 236 votes, Mamelodi Sundowns were third (28401) and Orlando Pirates fourth (23416). Next was Bloemfontein Celtic with 14937 votes, Moroka Swallows (1656), Leopards and Jomo Cosmos (370).
