Fiona Mpisi, a former South African Navy sports officer, has been roped in to sharpen two athletes preparing for the London Triathlon in England on August 4 and 5.

The duo are Diepsloot residents Tiny Moganedi, 40, and 22-year-old Cynthia Mabuza, who both work for MaAfrika Tikkun as caregivers.

MaAfrica Tikkun is a community upliftment non-governmental organisation. Moganedi will run 10 kilometres, while Mabuza will do a 45km cycle race.

Marc Lubner, chief executive of MaAfrika Tikken in South Africa, will complete the team by competing in the swimming leg of the competition.

Mpisi said the training for the London Triathlon was intensive, with two hours of practice three times a week.

Lubner said for the past three years, MaAfrika Tikkun received donations from Belron, a glass manufacturing company in the United Kingdom, as a result of its fundraising efforts at the London Triathlon.

More than 300 employees of Belron have raised just over R7,5 million from family and friends by participating in the London Triathlon.
