Johanna Sekywelea, a martial artist from North West, got a major boost ahead of her trip to Algeria for the All Africa Games.

Sekywelea was presented with an R18000 scholarship from the Confederation of Southern Africa Taekwondo Association on Saturday. In addition, the Ramokoka Wonkwang Taekwondo Club, of which Sekywelea is a member, also received kit and other playing and training equipment.

The promising taekwondo star who lives in Ramokokastad is a pupil at Kwena Tlase High School in Ramokoka.

She ascended the international stage when she won a gold medal in the Zone 6 Championships in Maseru, Lesotho, two months ago.

The cheque was handed over to Sekywelea by Cosata president Tiger Kwon, who praised the athlete for her commitment to the sport.

Sekywelea said she was excited with the money from Cosata, saying it will go a long way in helping her further her studies.

"Right now one is focusing on the All Africa Games; I would really love to do well in Algeria," said Sekywelea.
