The 2008 World Student Golf Championships South Africa Local Organising Committee will visit Sun City on July 25 on an inspection tour.

In Sun City, the organising committee will meet with the managers of the facility to discuss their accommodation, competition and other needs related to the event.

South Africa won the rights to host the prestigious tournament early this year after a bid by the country's student sports governing body, the South African Student Sports Union (Sassu).

The competition will take place from September 2 to 5.

Malumbete Ralethe, a member of the LOC, said: "We have already started with the preparations for the tournament.

"It will be a massive event because we are expecting just over 30 countries affiliated to Fisu [Federation of International University Sports] to participate.

"We are excited to be hosting the event, which will see some of the top golfers of the world on display.

"It will be the second time that South Africa will be hosting the tournament after Durban put on a great show in 1996.

"Many students and officials have been phoning to say they are anxious to come to the country that is hosting the 2010 World Cup.

"This will also be a great opportunity for us as South Africa to show the world that we are ready to host them in 2010."

The World Student Golf Championships is the second global event to be hosted by Sassu next year. The other one will be a hockey tournament at the University of Johannesburg.
