Event will be staged in Jozi
Women runners in Johannesburg will have a chance to celebrate National Women's Day through this year's Totalsports Ladies Race which will be staged in the city for the first time in six years.
The race, which is presented by a leading sportswear brand Asics, has been staged exclusively in Cape Town in the past five years.
However, the organisers of the race are on a mission to make it much bigger and popular and hence the event has been spread to Johannesburg.
This year's event will be held in aid of Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa), a non-profit organisation constantly striving to reduce the impact of cancer by promoting health in all communities in South Africa.
A percentage of the entries will be given to Cansa.
More than 8 000 runners are expected to compete in the Mother City and 4 000 in Johannesburg.
The race will be staged in Bellville in Cape Town and Emmarentia in Johannesburg and will comprise 10km and 5km races in each city.
The two races will start at 8am.
Two magnificent Nissan Micras will be up for grabs and all entrants in Cape Town and Johannesburg stand a chance to win one of the cars.
The official cut-off date for entries is July 24 in Johannesburg and July 27 in Cape Town and no entries will be accepted on the day of the races.
Sue Janse van Rensburg, Cansa's national executive director, said they were honoured to be part of the race this year.
"We encourage women of all ages, whether you are a cancer survivor or not, to join forces on National Women's Day and celebrate being a woman," Van Rensburg said.
