Boland Primary School walked away with the best team award during the annual Coca-Cola Under-13 Craven Week tournament held at Monument High School in Krugersdorp, Mogale City at the weekend.

The Boland juniors were presented with a R5000 cheque after sharing the spoils with the Bulls' juniors in their tough 8-8 draw in the exciting final before an appreciative crowd.

"We deserved the incentive (R5 000) because we put up a great fight during the five-day tournament," said an ecstatic Boland coach Edmund Williams.

Thys Bezuidenhout, South African Schools Rugby Association executive said it was an excellent tournament despite the chilly weather.

"'We have seen wonderful rugby skills throughout the week and the boys enjoyed themselves," said Bezuidenhout.

It was a game of two halves as the Bulls controlled the initial stage while Boland dominated in the second period.

The Bulls, who were cheered on by local fans, seemed ready to win the game in the first half as they played good rugby.

This was after they took a comfortable 8-0 lead in the 30th minute through Donovan Grobbelaar's try and flyhalf Jean Gerbrand Schoeman's penalty.

Boland came with new ideas in the second. Full back David Stofberg reduced the deficit to 8-5 when he scored a try after collecting a curling pass from flyhalf Brendon Olivier.

Boland were awarded a penalty inside the Bulls' territory and Stofberg made no mistake from the spot (8-8).

Boland ended the tournament undefeated after mauling top teams such as the Leopards (18-2), the Lions (3-0) and the Western Province Cape (7-0).
