I run a community preschool and primary school in Rustenburg and I am shocked by the department's decision to close the orphanage rather than help this good Samaritan.

It is a fact that some of our social workers are better at using destructive methods than following a remedial approach.

We know of many such centres living on hand-outs but you will never see the government assisting them. Social workers only visit the centres to close them down.

We, as Thanya school, are throwing our weight behind Eunice Mabaso and the Siyakhula Orphanage Centre and wish to know exactly what it is that is not up to standard so that we can help the centre upgrade these conditions.

Let's put our children first, closures last.
