Raymond Hack, chief executive of the South African Football Association (Safa), lashed out yesterday at teams that refused their players for the national Under-23 squad to the All Africa Games in Algeria.

"It is disappointing, the manner in which clubs have either systematically withdrawn or refused their players for the Olympic team for the AAG, leaving head coach Steve Komphela with no players."

Safa is expected to hand over the team to the South African Sport Confederation and Olympic Committee today and the squad is due to leave tomorrow. But the scheduled departure is likely to be delayed by the situation.

Hack added: "The teams' conduct is regrettable and is flayed by the association."

The coach is expected to assemble a new team and will hope the players will be released. - Mcelwa Nchabeleng
