Cameroon lifted the Sasol Eight Nations Tournament trophy when they narrowly pipped Botswana by the odd goal in an entertaining final at Olen Park Stadium in Potchefstroom yesterday.

Cameroon dominated from the onset as they literally camped in their opponents' half with creative moves.

They managed to penetrate Botswana's shaky defence but their strikers were wasteful in front of goal.

Despite getting more than six corner kicks in the first half Cameroon failed to use them effectively.

On the other hand, Botswana posed no threat to Cameroon as they lacked cohesion up front.

They did manage to string some moves together towards the end of the first half and the Cameroon defence of Djam Ronald Kufoin and company were forced to diffuse the threat.

Botswana came back strongly in the second half as they pushed forward in numbers in an attempt to unlock Cameroon's stubborn defence.

Cameroon made two substitutions when they brought on Kweuke Leonard and Mbengono Yannick for Niend Jean Micheal and Otobongene Outdor in the 53rd and 58th minutes, respectively.

Midway through the second half Cameroon almost took the lead but striker Olle Olle Allain looked on in disbelief as his fierce strike hit the upright from close range in the 67th minute.

A minute later striker Christian Bekamenga got the winner for Cameroon when his back heel found the net during a goalmouth scramble.

Both sides went for broke but couldn't add to the scoreline. In the losers' final Ghana beat Lesotho 3-0 to grab third spot.
