BRUSSELS - The European Commission yesterday called for the increased use of biofuels to help fight global warming, but warned that production had to be carefully managed to avoid damage to the environment.

BRUSSELS - The European Commission yesterday called for the increased use of biofuels to help fight global warming, but warned that production had to be carefully managed to avoid damage to the environment.

"This clean, renewable source of energy has the potential to help us respond to the dual challenges of climate change and energy security," EU commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner said.
