Moroka Swallows, who are targeting the league championship next season, are likely to sign striker Alton Meiring sometime this month.
Club managing director Leon Prins said yesterday that the utility player was training with the club and that it would be up to head coach Ian Gorowa to see if he fits in with his plans.
"Meiring arrived on Wednesday at training and it is for the coach to look at him before he decides on signing him up," said Prins.
"He was playing alongside Gorowa at Cape Town Spurs as twin strikers; we hope that he still has what it takes as far as the game goes."
Meiring is vastly experienced and has played for a number of teams in the elite league, among them Manning Rangers, Lamontville Golden Arrows, Mother City and Cape Town Spurs.
At the beginning of last season Kaizer Chiefs were keen on his services, but the deal fell through.
His presence in the Birds aviary could beef up the side's strike force of Mame Niang and Songwe Chalwe.
Swallows general manager Sipho Xulu said he was optimistic that the Birds will fly higher in the new season.
"Meiring is bound to add value to the club," he said.
