Trade and Industry Minister Mandisi Mpahlwa said yesterday the "bulk of the work has been done" to award the licence for the national lottery.

But the minister still refuses to give a date when this will happen. Mpahlwa said that no legal action pending against him would stop him from awarding the lucrative licence.

However, he is taking legal advice on the case in the Johannesburg high court for an interdict against him by information technology specialist Cedric Ndlela.

"We are currently processing the report we have received from the National Lottery Board," said Mpahlwa.

"It leaves us really with only shoeshine work.

"I know you want to know the date in which I am going to announce, but we won't do that. "
