Africa must unite at all costs

I was disappointed to learn that many African leaders attending the African Union meeting in Accra, Ghana, are opposed to Muammar Gaddafi's idea of a United States of Africa.

Here is one African leader who has a vision and dream for our beloved continent. It is very unfortunate that we have a bunch of palookas for leaders who have no vision and all they do is oppose everything proposed to them.

Who can blame them, they have self-interests to preserve and many of them have been raised and educated in a European way and so will never understand or feel what is happening at the grassroots.

What is quite amazing is that it is us, South Africa, who are the main opponents of this brilliant idea. Actually the idea of a united Africa was raised almost 30 years ago by the true son of the soil Mangaliso Robert Sobukwe.

Africa needs to be united at all costs, have its own currency, army, education system, and so on all the way from Cape to Cairo.

We have been and are currently being taken advantage of by the likes of Europeans, Indians and now Chinese.

Looking back at history, I guess for Africa to unite into a single government, this continent needs to produce high-calibre, ruthless, no-nonsense leaders the likes of Stalin, Mao Tse Tung, Hitler and Julius Caesar. The current leaders we have these days have no vision at all except to enrich themselves and to dance to the Western countries' tune.
