The City of Tshwane Municipality has established an all- inclusive community 2010 World Cup Steering Committee with executive mayor Gwen Ramokgopha as its chairman.
The City of Tshwane Municipality has established an all- inclusive community 2010 World Cup Steering Committee with executive mayor Gwen Ramokgopha as its chairman.
The objective of the committee is to oversee all the projects relating to the preparations for the quadrennial 32-nation tournament.
Godfrey Nkwane, the municipality's 2010 World Cup Programme chief executive, said the committee meets regularly to discuss the progress made and new programmes.
"The steering committee has been holding monthly meetings. It serves as an advisory body to the office of the 2010 World Cup," said Nkwane.
"We have a number of working groups working under the committee.
"The working groups are chaired by experts and members of the mayoral committees. As the steering committee, we are delighted that everything has been going according to plan.
"Working groups that we have established include promotion of football; marketing; communication and community involvement; infrastructure; entrepreneurship and tourism; safety; security and disaster management," said Nkwane.
Also present on the steering committee are Kiba Kekana (municipal manager) and mayoral committee members Sonto Thipe, Naldo Mokoena, Zodwa Masondo, Subesh Pillay and Dikeledi Lehobye.
Nkwane is also a member of the committee, as well as Kganare Lefoka (representative of the Tshwane Chamber of Commerce and Industry), Barend van Graan (chief executive of Blue Bulls Company), Thele Moema (Mamelodi Sundowns chief operations officer), Bafana Dhlamini (SuperSport United's general manager) and Willie Mooka (Safa Tshwane region).
"We have roped in the two Premiership clubs in Tshwane (Sundowns and United) and Safa so that they are also kept up to date in terms of the developments relating to the World Cup preparations," said Nkwane.
