SAO PAULO - Veteran Brazil striker Romario will join Fifa's technical and development committee.

The 41-year-old Romario will be the first Brazilian to join the Fifa committee that is in charge of analysing the sport and proposing improvements, Brazilian Soccer Confederation president Ricardo Teixeira announced on Monday.

Teixeira said Romario was chosen to travel with him to Switzerland at the end of the month to deliver the nation's guarantee that it can meet the list of requirements to host the 2014 World Cup. The requirements include ensuring visas and customs entry for foreigners and construction or renovation of stadiums.

Brazil is the sole candidate to host soccer's quadrennial championship in 2014, which is guaranteed to South America under Fifa's continental rotation policy. The 2010 World Cup will take place in South Africa. - Sapa-AP
