Four armed men made off with an undisclosed amount of cash at a pension pay-point in Willowvale, Eastern Cape, yesterday morning.

Police spokesman Captain Jackson Manatha said the suspects were travelling in a white ranger bakkie with blue stripes.

"They allegedly robbed the company which was paying pensioners at a trading store in Nkangana Village, Willowvale," said Manatha.

Manatha said no one was injured during the robbery. He added that police used helicopters to look for the suspects, but their attempts were in vain. Willowvale police have opened a case of armed robbery. Police have asked members of the public to assist in their investigations.

The South African Social Security Agency - the company tasked with paying out pensions - provincial spokesman Luzuko Qina said they were doing their best in the fight against such pension pay-point robberies. Qina said they had programmes that included rezoning most pension pay-points.
