The Education Department should be lauded for the conception and swift implementation of a national recovery plan.

The Education Department should be lauded for the conception and swift implementation of a national recovery plan.

The plan includes the free distribution of learning materials to pupils to make up for time lost during the four-week-long public sector strike.

National newspapers should be commended for their cooperation in publishing these guides to make the campaign a success.

The recovery plan, however, can only be accomplished through the commitment of both teachers and pupils.

The department has already indicated that it will discuss the programme with teacher unions.

The unions' buy-in is important as it will only ensure cooperation from everyone.

We appeal to teachers to help pupils in their bid to catch up on lost time.
