Taxi operators are still making Louis Botha Avenue in Johannesburg a hell-ride for bus drivers.

Yesterday more than 80 bus drivers on this road were stopped by Metro police as they prepared a march to demand protection from Transport MEC Ignatius Jacobs.

The protest was prompted by the stoning of a bus earlier in the day by taxi drivers at Tustsumane in Alexandra. The bus driver had to run for his life, leaving passengers in the bus.

The attack comes despite a peace agreement between taxi and bus operators last Wednesday - after three buses were stoned on different days.

Police spokesman Eugene Opperman said they were appealing to all parties to honour their side of the agreement.

Putco spokesman Matlakala Manota said police should act against violence and damage to property.
