Former PAC president Motsoko Pheko has been fired from the party.

Pheko's fate was decided on Saturday after the party's president, Letlapa Mphahlele, lifted a moratorium on suspending and firing members.

PAC secretary-general Achmad Cassiem told a press briefing yesterday that the moratorium was in place "for a period of time and was lifted after eight months".

Pheko who has been a member of the party for over 40 years was dismissed for non-disclosure of the Sobukwe Foundation's account and transactions during and after handover of office in October.

Pheko is also accused of performing unauthorised transactions and closing the foundation's account in January without the knowledge and authority of the party.

"As former president of the PAC at the time of these contraventions, he was expected to uphold the highest ethical standards for a person holding public office," said Cassiem.

He said the party has not established the value of the money kept in the account, but a forensic investigation would reveal all details.
