A group of RDP housing subcontactors in New Canada, near Soweto, say they are being underpaid for the back-breaking work they are doing. The group comprises more than 50 people.

They have been contracted by Sea Kay Engineering, the main contractor for the area, to build the three-roomed houses along New Canada road.

The subcontractors said the government paid Sea Kay about R42000 a house.

But the subcontractors are only paid R1300 for each house they build.

Sea Kay manager Cornel Kruger denied the allegations and said that it was the first time he had heard about the underpayment of subcontractors. - Sibongile Mashaba
