A disappointed Omar Sandys, who was determined to win the inaugural Nashua Golf Challenge, finished in the top 15 at the Gary Player Country Club in Sun City at the weekend.
The Welkom-born golfer was not on top form, saying he was struggling with his short game in the event won by Warren Abery.
"I was struggling with my putting, I don't know what went wrong during the game," he said. "I played well in the first two rounds but I lost and concentration in the last round.
"I'm going to work hard on my putting and I hope to do well in the coming tournaments."
Abery, the pint-sized professional from Kwazulu-Natal, capped off a brilliant week at Sun City with a runaway victory at the challenge, barely 16 months after winning the Nashua Masters title at the Wild Coast.
His winning total of nine-under-par 207 saw the 34-year old win by four from Brazil's Adilson da Silva who came second with Keith Horne coming third and veteran Chris Williams took the fourth spot.
Hennie "Boksburg Bomber" Otto, who fell from contention in the second round, clawed his way back into the top 10 with a four-under-par 68 and tied for fifth at two-under with Bloemfontein rookie, Jbe' Kruger, 71.
The Sunshine Tour professionals will enjoy a four-week break.
