Lesotho has weak leaders

I am perturbed by the manner in which Lesotho depends on other countries to solve its problems.

I am perturbed by the manner in which Lesotho depends on other countries to solve its problems.

A few years ago there was a coup in Lesotho.

This prompted the South African government to intervene and many innocent civilians died in the process and infrastructure was destroyed.

The South African assistance was done without Lesotho firstly trying to solve its problems internally.

Recently a state of emergency was imposed after a few politicians' homes were attacked by unknown people.

One feels the government could have used intelligence or security agencies to pursue such individuals.

One, therefore, begins to question the credibility of Lesotho as a country to defend its own citizens against any form of intimidation or attack by people outside government.

The leadership of Lesotho should stop such a dependency syndrome and begin to assert itself within the SADC region.

We should avoid the repeat of those years of military action against ordinary people.

Leaders should be reminded that running away from solving problems has never been a good strategy.
