Janice Josephs, South African long jump champion and record holder in the heptathlon, recorded the second best distance of her career at the Moscow Cup athletics meeting on Friday night with a jump of 6,60m.

Although a fine jump, she had to be content with a seventh place against some of Russia's best.

Josephs, who will compete in the long jump and the 100m hurdles at next month's African Games in Algiers, set her personal best of 6,62m in a heptathlon contest at Stellenbosch earlier this year.

Ramsay Carelse, the national high jump champion and only other SA athlete at the meeting, failed to clear any height.- Sapa
