IFP president Mangosuthu Buthelezi, pictured, has lashed out at the party's leadership for its failure to be the biggest party in KwaZulu-Natal.

Buthelezi said party leaders and members were responsible for their loss of the province to the ANC.

Speaking at the provincial two-day conference in Umzimkhulu on Saturday, Buthelezi said he had made several appeals to the party about the dangers of disappearing from their communities.

He said the laissez faire attitude of party leaders and members resulted in the loss of a number of municipalities in last year's local-government elections.
