South African Football (Pty) Limited, a commercial wing of Safa, hopes to persuade its former chief executive, Sbu Mngadi, to meet it today.

This despite the fact that the commercial wing on Wednesday accused Mngadi of authorising fraudulent payments estimated at R1million.

The accusations against Mngadi, a journalist-turned-businessman, surfaced after the body's board meeting on Wednesday.

Mngadi was present at the meeting where the board's chairman, Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana, said he confessed to having superimposed the signatures of two members.

The signatures Mngadi is alleged to have superimposed are those of Nonkonyana and Safa's chief executive, Raymond Hack.

The commercial wing's board has resolved to open a fraud case with the police.

"We had agreed to meet on Friday, but Mngadi informed me on Wednesday that his lawyers advised him not to cooperate with us anymore," Nonkonyana said.

"I'm still hopeful that I will meet him in the presence of his lawyers. We really have to clear up certain things today."

Nonkonyana said, as the accounting officer of the body, Mngadi was required to account for all the transactions during his four-month stay with them.

Mngadi has denied all accusations against him, saying the investigations by the commercial wing were a waste.

"The so-called investigations will come to zero because the facts are that I paid the company creditors legitimately," Mngadi said.

"It is part of their campaign to find me guilty in the court of public opinion when they know my real crime was to stand up against bullying."

Mngadi said he had got permission to superimpose Hack and Nonkonyana's signatures.
