Benoni Premier United yesterday made clear their intentions for the 2007-08 season by recruiting Steve Komphela as a sports director.

Dumisani Ndlovu, United's chairman, was quick to point out that Komphela would assist them when he was not busy with the Under-23s.

Komphela could not be reached for comment, but Safa chief executive Raymond Hack refused to comment until he had spoken to the former Bafana Bafana captain first.

"We agreed with Steve that he will help us when the Under-23s are not in camp. We really needed to beef up our technical staff," said Ndlovu.

Two weeks ago, United unveiled Dan Malesela as coach and John Tlale as goalkeepers' coach.

"We are serious about doing well next season. Our aim is to challenge for the honour. That is why we are busy rebuilding the team," said Ndlovu.

The Daveyton tycoon yesterday completed the signing of two Ugandan internationals, red-hot striker Geoffrey Serenkuma and defender Hassan Wasswa.

"We decided to bring them on board after their 2-1 win over Nigeria during the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier early this month."

Other new players signed by United include Clement Mazibuko from Mamelodi Sundowns, Bongani Mbhele (Moroka Swallows) and Thabiso "Skaapie" Malatsi from OR Tambo Cosmos.

Ndlovu said Tshepo Masilela will be off to Germany next week to try his luck with FC Brugge, the same club that Elrio van Heerden plays for.

The Rabbits will be going to Mpumalanga next week for a pre-season camp that will include visits to Swaziland and Mozambique for friendlies.
