Stage set for golf challenge
The stage is set for the inaugural Nashua Golf Challenge that tees off at Sun City this week.
The competition, that will be contested by a number of black players, runs from today until Saturday.
The first round will be played at the Gary Player Country Club, the second at the Lost City Golf Club, and then its back to the Gary Player course for the final round.
The purse this week is R400000 with the winner pocketing R63400. Thirteen players are exempted to take part in the event, which is bound to be exciting.
Among those who are exempted are John Bele, Tsietsi Chabangu, Eugene Marugi, Irvin Mosate and Omar Sandys.
Meanwhile, the yearly Sanlam Cancer Challenge will be staged at the Daveyton Golf Club on Sunday.
Competition is becoming stiff at this venue since new office bearers were elected.
Most of the golfers who were disgusted and left have returned and the game is more exciting than before.
Tournament organiser Theo Fakude said the defending champion, Rapule Molalathoko, was on top of his game and that he had been consistent for the past few months.
