Two young South Africans are taking the local music industry to a higher level.

Sifiso Kubuli, 26, and Sibusiso Mvelase, 25, pictured, have created a website to help up-coming talent. Their site, www.demohosting.com, goes live today.

Kubuli and Mvelase told Sowetan that they created the website because of communication challenges facing unsigned artists and record companies.

"South Africa has a plethora of talented people, but because there is no proper communication platform with production companies, the talent is just wasted," said Kubuli.

"Record companies are bombarded with demo CD's and tapes that they don't listen to. Some of the material is potent, but because it did not reach the relevant ears, nothing ever happens," said Kubuli.

Kubuli, a member of Eastern Cape sensation Insomnia, said the site will also host jingle demos. He said artists can post their demos on the site, where it is stored in a secure environment and is accessible to recording companies scouting for new talent.

Artists pay a yearly fee of R50 to have the demo hosted for a year and made accessible to recording companies in the country and ultimately abroad.

Kubuli said that his company does not offer any copyright protection.

"This service is ideal for both parties because it allows artists in remote areas an opportunity to host their demos. Companies can scout in the remotest areas without having to go there."
