South Africa's most popular boxing venue, the Orient Theatre in East London, which can accommodate more than 1 500 fight enthusiasts, is expected to be at full capacity tomorrow night.
This not purely because three local boys will bid for a South African and two WBC International titles against those from Gauteng.
But it is simply because the more people who attend this Branco Sports Production tournament, the better money Nkosana Mgxaji will get.
Gauteng promoter Branco Milenkovic has guaranteed the ailing Mgxaji from Mdantsane 30 percent of the gate takings.
Mgxaji, the former SA non-white junior lightweight champion, is very ill.
His health has deteriorated and that forced him to relocate to Cape Town to get better medical attention.
Milenkovic paid for his air fare to East London. The Serbian-born promoter revealed that Mgxaji's former opponents, Anthony Morodi and Alf Buqwana, would be at ringside.
Mgxaji fought epic battles with these Sowetans.
Mgxaji, who was nicknamed "Happyboy", beat Alfred "Kid Bassie" Buqwana twice for the then South African non-white junior lightweight title in 1971 and 1973.
Mgxaji also fought Anthony "Blue Jaguar" Morodi three times, winning two of their memorable fights. Their presence should inspire all the contestants.
"I am not asking people to come and support me but their hero," said Milenkovic, who announced that the entrance fee will be R70.
"I hope that both television houses, the SABC and SuperSport, big businessmen countrywide and all provincial governments will follow this example by making sure that our heroes of yesteryear are always remembered."
Godfrey Nzimande and Mpumelelo Mbedle will fight for the vacant SA junior lightweight title while Jeffrey Mathebula will defend his WBC International featherweight belt against Themba Tshicila.
Matyhila will collide with his home boy from Mdantsane, Sizwe Sinyabi, for the vacant WBC International junior flyweight title.
Nzimande and Mathebula are from Limpopo but they fight out of Gauteng, while Tshicila and Mbedle will enjoy territorial advantage.
