The 70s/80s Soccer Legends in Free State have engaged their members to help youngsters in the area to master football.

Max Tshabalala, the organisation's spokesman, said their members had started to conduct coaching clinics at the Bretner School of Excellence and everything was going according to plan.

Tshabalala said the children involved were from four to 18 years old and were taught only on Saturdays. He said while their members were conducting courses at the academy, they would start with entry-level and level one coaching courses next month.

"We have 20 former players who need to be qualified coaches. Fifteen of them will start with the entry course and the five with the level one," he said.

Former Bloemfontein Celtic winger Ishmael "Litre" Mokitlane is involved with the day-to-day running of the school.

JC Bester, the owner of the academy, said the former professionals were doing a wonderful job for the children and were assisting the youngsters with the basics of the game.

"There is a lot of improvement since they took over and Lebone House, that is involved with Aids orphans, also send their children to the academy for coaching on Saturdays," said Bester.
