Mpumalanga police are looking for the mother of a newborn baby girl who was found abandoned in bushes on Tuesday afternoon.

The girl has now been admitted to Rob Ferreira Hospital in Nelspruit. She was found by a local boy in the woods at Daantjie's Oggo Section outside Nelspruit. KaNyamazane police spokesman Constable Chicco Nkosi told Sowetan yesterday that the boy, 13, who was looking after cattle, heard a faint sound coming from dense bushes at 3pm.

"He investigated and discovered a baby wrapped in a blanket," said Nkosi.

The police have asked anyone with information to call them on 013-794-9714 or call Constable Nkosi on 082-469-2417.
