The North West provincial government intends using the 2007 edition of the Telkom Charity Cup as a vehicle to market their 2010 World Cup campaigns.

The Premier Soccer League named Mmabatho Stadium as the venue for the tournament scheduled for August 4.

In the past, the popular one-day tournament was played at Soccer City, the mecca of South African soccer that is now being upgraded for the World Cup.

Kennedy Mosiapoa, the North West 2010 World Cup provincial coordinator, applauded the PSL for bringing the game to their province.

Rustenburg in North West has been chosen as one of the 2009 Confederations Cup and World Cup host cities .

"The fact that the Charity Cup is coming to our area this year will definitely be a great advert for North West in terms of the World Cup," said Mosiapoa.

"There is no doubt that it will also mark the return of big-time soccer in Mmabatho. We appreciate the confidence that the PSL has shown in our ability."

Mosiapoa said the business sector in the area has already started with preparations for the tournament that will feature four clubs with the most votes.

"We have a great experience of hosting big soccer games in Mmabatho, people will remember the Vodacom Challenge."
