Alex Plaza in Alexandra Township will hold its grand opening tomorrow and on Friday.
The R80million first phase of the 10000m² plaza was launched in October 2005.
Two years later the centre has doubled in size, reinforcing its position as the definitive shopping facility serving Alexandra.
Additions will connect the existing Alex Plaza to the old Alex Gate Shopping Centre to make one big shopping mall.
The new enlarged shopping centre will be anchored at one end by retail group Shoprite and the other end by supermarket group Spar.
The fully let centre includes shops like OBC Chicken, City Express, Jet Mart, Ellerines, KFC, Barcelos, Bucelis, King Pie, Nizams, Webbers, Jive Music (Look & Listen), Lewis, Beares, Best Electric, Butterfield, DFX and all the banks.
"We want to capture and keep some of the memories of old Alex. When the centre is complete, one will be able to see the corrugated iron sheets that graced Alex's old houses incorporated in the design," said New Africa Developments spokesman.
